Options to Consider When Purchasing Your New Longboard
Skateboarding is the favourite past time activity for millions around the world. Flip tricks and the general fast pace of the sport attracts a lot of people. For other crowds, however, they are looking for something more along the lines of surfing, but not quite in the water. The carving and overall smooth ride of a longboard makes it the board of choice for many.
If you are interested in taking up longboarding as a hobby or sport, or
maybe you already longboard but need a new board, there are many factors
to consider when making your next purchase. Longboard manufacturers
have became much more diverse in the last few years, offering up much
more choices than previous decades of skaters had available to them.
With this diversity, however, brings some confusion to those who may not
know exactly what they want.
The first thing to consider is cost. I hate to say it but with top of
the line boards going for over $500 and quality entry level boards
starting at around $100 or so, your going to have to pick a budget your
comfortable with. Once you have the set and you have found some boards
in that price range you can move on to more specific options.
If you feel that you will appreciate a very smooth ride, your going to
want to choose a board that offers up very soft wheels. The down fall
here is that the softer they are the more likely you will be replacing
them soon. Another factor that will help maintain a smooth ride is the
design of the trucks, or hardware that holds the wheels to the board
itself.
Other things to take in to consideration when shopping for a new
longboard is the cut of the board. Despite the name, there are some
longboards that are not even the length of a normal skateboard! Even
wilder, there are some that are beyond twice the size of a skateboard.
The shorter the faster turns will be, the longer the slower but also the
wider the turn will end up being.
